The president of Argentina, Javier Milei, will be an ally in the fight against communism in Latin America during Donald Trump's second government, stated Mercedes Schlapp, one of the leaders of the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).
Milei is one of the guests at the largest forum of conservatism in the United States at its investor meeting taking place from Thursday to Saturday at Mar-a-Lago, Trump's club in Palm Beach (Florida). So far, it has not been specified when Trump and Milei will speak at the investor forum, which is a private event closed to the press at the club of the former Republican president (2017-2021), who has been shaping the cabinet that will accompany him starting with his inauguration on January 20, 2025.
For Schlapp, former director of Strategic Communications at the White House during the first Trump Administration, "Milei's message is very important: of freedom and anti-socialism". The communications strategist, of Cuban origin, emphasized in her interview with EFE that the Latin American leader is seen as a link between Trump and the region. Schlapp indicated that the Republican Party knew it had to achieve a decisive victory for Trump to support the fight for freedom in Latin America against the danger of communism and socialism, "because this region needs to be prioritized".
Mercedes Schlapp highlighted the importance of encouraging the U.S. government to "talk to these governments, tell them that we want to work with these countries and not allow China to take more possession and have more influence in that region". She praised the appointment of Senator Marco Rubio, of Cuban descent, as the first Latino in charge of the State Department, anticipating that his mission will be to control China to help Latin America.
Regarding Argentina, Javier Milei headed to the United States with the intention of seeking a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and obtaining better conditions in the relationship with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The Argentine president will reunite in Florida with Elon Musk, appointed by Trump as head of the new Department of Government Efficiency, and this meeting is expected to strengthen relations.
The political strategist, married to Matt Schlapp, president of the American Conservative Union, expressed enthusiasm for Musk's appointment in the cabinet and believes that his presence will be beneficial for President Trump's decisions. Schlapp emphasized that Musk was key in Trump's victory in the last elections and his collaboration will improve the management of the former president's second government.
