Journalists' Conflict in Argentina

Analysis of the conflict between Argentine journalists Roberto Funes Ugarte and Nancy Pazos.

Recently, Roberto Funes Ugarte commented on his colleague's recent statements. He stated that what she said seems "in very poor taste" to him. "I'm not going to fall for it, what she said is horrible. I have never talked about her private life or anyone else's," he replied.

Funes Ugarte also mentioned that he was deeply hurt that in his almost 25-30 year career, no one had ever spoken about his personal life or his family. He emphasized that he was raised very well and is grateful to God for his family. "I was a very happy boy, and I never, never, never suffered from any of the things this lady says," he concluded.

He also added that he is not going to speak ill of Nancy Pazos. "If she wants to say whatever she wants, let her say it. I'm not going to speak ill of her because I think she is a very good journalist," he explained.

The conflict between the journalists escalated after Funes Ugarte, on his show, congratulated Diego Santilli on his victory in the Buenos Aires provincial elections, paying tribute to his ex-wife, Nancy Pazos. In response, Pazos called Funes Ugarte a "poor guy" and suggested that he is likely resentful due to childhood traumas related to his sexual orientation in a very closed and unaccepting environment.

Host of the "A la Barbarossa" program, Roberto Funes Ugarte, was outraged by her words and made his own statement in the "Puro Show" program to clarify the issue. He also explained that when host Georgina Barbarossa is absent, he is the one who goes on air alongside Analia Franchín, and the channel itself made that decision.
