Argentina's road infrastructure gains attention in European media

The state of Argentina's road infrastructure has crossed borders and become a topic of discussion in European media. According to an report published by the German international broadcaster Deutsche Welle (DW), there is a stagnation in public works, which directly impacts the national roads that users suffer. As reported by the Argentine News Agency, the repercussion was highlighted on social networks by national deputy Julia Strada (Unión por la Patria), who pointed out that the foreign press reflects the 'virtual elimination of public works' during the government of Javier Milei. In 2025, the contraction reached 78.1% compared to the same base year, the legislator wrote on her X account. The report cited by DW, prepared by road workers, warns that 70% of Argentina's road network is deteriorated due to the paralysis of works and lack of maintenance. This situation generates a direct impact on logistics costs and road safety, making the transport of goods more expensive and affecting the competitiveness of various productive sectors. The report itself highlights the contradiction that some of the sectors most affected by the poor condition of the roads, such as mining and hydrocarbons, have recently benefited from tax reductions. As an example, the province of Jujuy, on the northern border with Chile and Bolivia, is mentioned, where the provincial government is negotiating with lithium mining companies for them to invest in roads, while at the same time demanding a greater participation of the national state in the financing of strategic road works. The Jujuy government negotiates with lithium mining companies for them to invest in roads and also asks the Nation for financing of road works. According to the data disseminated, the execution of capital expenditures destined for public works fell by 75.9% in real terms in 2024 compared to 2023. On the other hand, Córdoba enabled traffic on an important route where it invested millions of dollars.
