In the surroundings of the Congress, a group of hooligans caused disturbances during a mobilization, resulting in clashes with the police and leaving 20 officers injured. One of the police officers was shot, while a female officer was hit in the head with a stone.
Among the injured is Elías Montenegro, 34 years old, who suffered a gunshot wound to the left arm. Also, Wanda Edith Hurtado, from Neighborhood Police Station 3B, was struck in the head with a stone. Other injured officers were identified as Deputy Commissioner José Aníbal Rodríguez, Major Officer Brian Alan Alfredo Rojo, and Officer Rodrigo Alberto Valdez, among others.
The presence of firearms during the disturbances raised fears of a greater tragedy, but fortunately, it did not reach that extent. The situation turned violent when the hooligans took over the demonstration, sparking clashes with security forces.
In addition to the 10 members of the Federal Police, Naval Prefecture, and National Gendarmerie who were injured, half of the wounded are from the City of Buenos Aires Police. All officers are receiving medical attention and a swift recovery is expected after these serious incidents.
