
President Javier Milei delivered an extensive speech at the usual Legislative Assembly that opens the ordinary sessions of Congress, where he made a strong defense of his economic management and outlined his objectives for the year 2025. He highlighted the main changes made by his government last year and emphasized the most favorable numbers before presenting the main projects he has in mind for this new year.
Among the proposals is a broad tax reform aimed at reducing the number of national taxes to just six, as well as profound changes in the Penal Code, a migration reform, transformations in Justice and in the field of Security, among other innovations. Milei stressed that the ambition of his government is not one of power, but reformist, and called for the promotion of these reforms with the participation of all political and social sectors.
In the second part of his speech, the president detailed his main objectives for this year. One of them is to prohibit monetary emission as a mechanism to combat inflation and advance towards making the country an economic power. He also mentioned the consolidation of reducing public spending, establishing a fiscal target for the year 2027. In addition, he emphasized the importance of carrying out a structural tax reform that simplifies procedures and bureaucracy, reducing the number of national taxes by 90%.
In his words, Milei expressed: "If we truly want to be a power, the first assignment we must advance is to eradicate inflation forever." The president also referred to the May Pact, where they committed to consolidating a maximum public spending of 25% of GDP and stressed the need to meet these targets. The Government will seek to advance these reforms with the participation of all political and social sectors.
