Currently, in addition to Federal Court 11, there are vacancies in Comodoro Py 2002 for 12, 6, and 9. Federal Judge Sebastián Casanello was drawn this morning to lead Federal Court 11 for one year, vacant since the death of its head Claudio Bonadio. With this, he will take over the Insurance Case, which has former president Alberto Fernández as the accused.
The draw was conducted via manual ballot at the Secretariat of the Buenos Aires Federal Court. From February 12, Casanello will replace Julián Ercolini as the substitute judge, the magistrate who has been in charge of Court 11 in recent years. In this court, the Insurance Case is being processed, which has the former president as the accused and in which the round of 39 investigative statements from all the defendants for alleged "fraudulent administration" has already concluded, so their procedural situations must be resolved.
Federal Court 11, located on the fourth floor of Comodoro Py 2002, has been vacant since the death of Bonadio on February 4, 2020, and is still processing the competition to appoint a new head at the Judicial Council. Due to the approaching deadline of one year for substitutes in the jurisdiction, the Federal Court called for the draw for this Friday.
The competition to fill the vacancy "is ongoing before the Council of the Judiciary of the National Power, in order to comply with the selection and final appointment procedure according to the National Constitution," explained the judge Eduardo Farah in the draw announcement. Casanello now has three business days to notify that he accepts the appointment to the aforementioned position, which he will add to his duties as head of Federal Court 7.
Three magistrates were present for the draw: Casanello, Ercolini intending to renew the substitution, and Judge Sebastián Ramos. Other first-instance judges from the jurisdiction excused themselves from participating for various personal reasons or because they are already substituting other vacant courts.
