The oral trial against a 40-year-old driver, Lucas Castro, who in April 2023 was driving his Ford Kuga Titanium at excessive speed on Chivilcoy Avenue in Floresta, has begun in the Oral Criminal and Correctional Court No. 2. Castro faces charges of involuntary manslaughter of María Julieta del Luján Rovea and Clarisa Zylberman, in addition to serious and minor injuries to other individuals.
The tragic incident occurred around 3:30 AM when Castro, under the influence of alcohol and drugs, lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the rear of a Renault Duster at the intersection with César Díaz street. Rovea, 43, and Zylberman, 54, who were in the back seat of the impacted car, died instantly.
At the start of the trial, Castro testified before the judges and then the testimonies from witnesses began, including the brother of one of the victims, who was driving the impacted car. The victim recounted that night they were celebrating his wife’s birthday and then headed to a friend's house. After the crash, his sister and Julieta died on the spot, while his daughter suffered a pelvis fracture.
The prosecution details that the accident was caused by Castro's reckless driving, with a blood alcohol level exceeding the legal limit, at excessive speed and with reckless disregard. In the other vehicle was Zylberman's husband at the wheel, his wife in the passenger seat, and their 14-year-old daughter also in the back seat, all of whom were injured in the crash.
Prosecutor Anselmo Castelli is in charge of this case that has shocked the community.
