Buenos Aires, April 4 (NA) -- A 15-year-old adolescent is facing an aggressive type of cancer; her family has exhausted all medical possibilities and found a specific treatment in Uruguay, although bureaucratic times and financial availability are conflicting.

In dialogue with the Argentine News Agency, Romina Paredes, mother of Luna Flores, recounted: "We are from Gualeguay, Entre Ríos, and we are currently in Paraná because, until now, everything that was medically possible has been done at the San Roque Hospital in Paraná, where they are in communication with professionals from the Gutiérrez Hospital and the Garrahan Hospital".

"Faced with my daughter's situation, who has the disease in the right kidney and the adrenal gland, the professionals began to look for another type of medication that can have a better effect on what she is going through," Paredes related.

In line, she explained that the research resulted in the finding of "a treatment called CAR-T -an advanced type of personalized immunotherapy that modifies lymphocytes and destroys cancer cells-, which is currently in Barcelona".

However, logistics made it impossible and the search continued: "I am a teacher, my husband is a police engineer, and we really cannot afford such a large sum from a distance".

A new horizon came into view and the family found hope: "We found that this procedure is also carried out in the Oriental Republic of Uruguay, at the Pérez Scremini sanatorium, which is under the supervision of Dr. Luis Castillo, with whom we communicated, along with the doctor who accompanies us in Paraná".

"We were informed that the amount is US$140,000."
