A 2-year-old girl is in serious condition after being hit by a police patrol car in the Buenos Aires town of Manuel Alberti, with witnesses claiming the female officer was "using her cell phone".
Gustavo and Matías Ruiz, two of the minor's uncles, spoke with the Noticias Argentina agency and stated that the girl is in a delicate condition in the intensive care unit of the Federico Falcón Hospital in Del Viso, where she "underwent emergency surgery for a skull depression".
"A small bone was touching her brain as a result of the impact. They have to do an MRI and other tests," the uncles added.
"She lost hair during the crash," the family specified about the incident on Salta and Anasagasti streets. They also denounced that the policewoman driving the pickup truck "was distracted with her cell phone": "The passenger was also supposed to be using the phone. It happened in front of my niece's house." One of the victim's uncles stated that the accident occurred due to a "careless act" and that he "doesn't know the officer's name" nor was she subjected to an alcohol test.
