Argentinian singer Sofía Mora decided to break her silence and publicly spoke about the violence she claims to have suffered at the hands of her ex-partner, Benja Torres, nephew of singer Diego Torres.
In an interview with Olivia Wald for the 'Conversations in the Blood' series, the young artist recounted the most painful moments of her relationship and revealed that she was a victim of physical and psychological abuse. 'During an argument, he punched me in the face,' Mora recalled with starkness of one of the most traumatic episodes. Although she did not file a formal police complaint, the artist explained that her intention is to shed light on what many women experience in silence: 'I don't want to harm him, I just want to talk about what happened to me so that other girls don't feel guilt or fear.'
Sofía stated that at first she was not fully aware of the abuse: 'I would say, 'I don't have a toxic relationship, he treats me like a queen,' but one day he would snap, escalate it a bit, and then he would be aggressive with me,' she recounted. During the year-long relationship, she suffered emotional isolation, manipulation, and verbal abuse: 'He would tell me, 'If you tell anyone this, I won't be able to come to your house anymore.' I couldn't talk to anyone about it,' she confessed.
Speaking of the most severe incident, she remembered that an argument over jealousy turned into a physical attack: 'He asked to see a chat with a guy from public relations. He hit me so hard I thought my face was caved in.' After the assault, her ex-partner tried to apologize: 'He spent an hour asking for forgiveness.' The next day they argued again and his expression changed. 'He didn't want to leave,' she added.
'I went through very ugly things, and after a few months, it started to click,' explained the singer. 'He started yelling at me, became violent. He played with my guilt. I was sitting on the bed and he punched me in the face. It hurt so much I thought my face was broken.'
'This was driving me crazy,' she recounted between tears. Mora also spoke about the psychological impact the relationship had on her life and musical career: 'Everyone told me I was very dull, but I had a lot of things bottled up. I don't want to be silent anymore,' concluded Sofía, hoping her testimony will inspire other women going through situations of violence.
Beyond the pain, Sofía continues to focus on her career as a singer, songwriter, and dancer. At 22, she is positioning herself as one of the emerging voices of Argentine pop. She began her artistic journey at a young age, training in musical comedy, theater, guitar, piano, and singing. In 2020, she released her first single, 'Desastre,' followed by tracks like 'Tus expectativas,' 'Todo al carajo,' and 'Medio Cliché.' In 2022, she presented her album 'Xoxo,' consolidating her fresh and modern style. On social media, especially on TikTok, she has millions of followers and uses her platform to share music and empowerment messages. Over time, she began a recovery process and today says she feels stronger: 'It was very hard to get out, but I did it.'
