The National Meteorological Service (SMN) has issued a series of severe weather alerts affecting the central region of the country this Friday and Saturday, due to the advance of a cold front. The government has suspended classes due to strong winds. According to meteorologist Christian Garavaglia, unstable conditions are expected in much of the country, with two main yellow alerts in effect: one for the Zonda wind in Cuyo and another for strong storms, which may include hail, in the central region. Yellow Alert for Zonda Wind The SMN has activated a yellow-level alert for Zonda wind for this Friday, which will progressively affect from south to north the mountainous region of Mendoza and San Juan. When: During the morning and night of this Friday, October 31st. Intensity: Winds of up to 75 km/h are expected. Yellow Alert for Strong Storms and Hail The national body has also issued a yellow-level alert for strong storms affecting several central provinces. When and where: Friday (afternoon-night): Beginning over eastern Mendoza and northern La Pampa. Saturday (dawn-morning): Spreading and intensifying over San Luis and the southern and western parts of Córdoba. Intensity: Rainfall accumulations of 20 to 40 mm are expected, but the SMN warns that the strongest storms could feature "hail and frequent electrical activity".
