Alert for Severe Storms in Argentina

The National Meteorological Service (SMN) issued a warning for severe storms in different areas of the country during this long weekend. The storms are expected to be accompanied by strong electrical activity, occasional hail, intense gusts, and heavy rainfall over short periods. Accumulated precipitation values between 20 and 50 mm are expected, which may be exceeded in some locations.

Among the recommendations issued by the SMN are to remove objects that may obstruct water drainage, avoid outdoor activities, and not to seek refuge near trees or power poles. To minimize the risk of being struck by lightning, it is advised not to stay on beaches, rivers, lagoons, or pools and to be alert for the possible fall of hail.

The active yellow alert mainly affects areas of the provinces of Buenos Aires, particularly in the southwest, and La Pampa. According to the SMN, the areas under the yellow alert will be affected by storms, some of which could be locally strong. Therefore, it is recommended to have an emergency backpack ready with a flashlight, radio, documents, and a phone to handle any unforeseen situations.
