Sofía Alert and Child Rescue in Argentina

Recently, two positive findings were achieved in Argentina thanks to the viralization of disappearance cases. One of the cases was the rescue of M., a 7-year-old girl who was kidnapped by a man and later found in the province of Buenos Aires. In the same period, in Punta Indio, the disappearance of a 10-year-old girl was reported, who was found safe and sound in a neighbor's house after the alert was activated.

Under the name Alert Sofía, this program originated from the case of Sofía Herrera, a 3-year-old girl who disappeared in 2008 at a campground in Tierra del Fuego. Since its implementation in 2019, Alert Sofía has been activated seven times in Argentina with the aim of disseminating national information and images of missing minors in the country. The last time it was activated was for the case of Lian Flores in Córdoba.

So far, the cases of Loan Danilo Peña in Corrientes, Guadalupe Lucero in San Luis, and Sofía Herrera in Tierra del Fuego remain the most prominent and urgent at the national level. Regarding other cases disseminated, the minors were found in good health after an extensive search operation. Among them, the rescue of a newborn baby in Salta who had been stolen from a hospital is notable.
