A seismic event of magnitude 3.9 on the Richter scale occurred in Vaca Muerta, marking the fourth similar event in the region this year. This earthquake was recorded at approximately 9:30 AM on Friday, and its epicenter was 90 kilometers from the capital of Neuquén, near Sauzal Bonito.
Residents of Sauzal Bonito described the earthquake as "very strong," which is surprising for a community that unfortunately has become accustomed to such situations. According to a report from the Induced Seismicity Observatory, this event adds to a series of seismic movements in the area.
Local media reported that earlier this month, another earthquake related to hydraulic fracturing was recorded in the El Trapial area, which is operated by Chevron Argentina SRL. On that occasion, the magnitude was 3.5 on the Richter scale, and the energy released came from a depth of 11 kilometers.
According to sources consulted by ADNSUR, Chevron Argentina SRL has been carrying out well fracturing operations just 3 kilometers from the epicenter of this latest earthquake in Vaca Muerta. This seismic event was felt by the inhabitants of Rincón de los Sauces and its surroundings, generating concern in the local community.
