According to a new report from the Observatory of Femicides in Argentina "Adriana Marisel Zambrano", led by La Casa del Encuentro, in January 2025, twenty-eight women were victims of gender-based violence in the country, equivalent to one femicide every 26 hours. The most alarming data indicates that 27 children were left without mothers, 49% of the cases involved women underage, and 60% of the aggressors were partners or former partners.
As the report reveals, the most dangerous place for a woman in a situation of violence continues to be her home or the dwelling shared with the aggressor, as 70% of femicides occurred in that environment. Buenos Aires tops the list of provinces with the highest number of cases, followed by Santa Fe, Mendoza, and CABA.
La Casa del Encuentro has been recording femicide cases since 2008, being for a long time the only observatory that provided statistics on the murders of women, girls, and diversities throughout the country for the development of public policies and preventive and protective laws.
Some additional data on gender-based violence in these cases include that five victims had filed complaints, two aggressors had precautionary measures issued, in four cases the femicides were related to security forces, one victim showed signs of sexual abuse, two victims were migrants, four femicides committed suicide, two cases were linked to drug-related crime, and a femicide of an adult man was recorded.
