Nahuel Huapi National Park has lost seven thousand hectares due to a forest fire, and firefighters are currently working hard in the area to contain the flames.
The Emergency Committee, led by Nahuel Huapi National Park and the Directorate for Forest Fire and Emergency Fighting, provided updated information about the fire situation in Los Manzanos this Monday. According to local reports, the fire currently covers 6908 hectares, although this figure may change once the aerial assessments on Tuesday are completed to define the exact perimeter.
Monday was challenging due to the arrival of a cold front with winds of 30 to 40 km/h and gusts of up to 70 km/h, which intensified the spread of the fire in several areas, especially on the northeast slope of Cerro Colorado and Cerro Donat towards the isthmus of lakes Martin and Steffen from Cascada los Alerces.
Today, it is expected that temperatures will be lower than in previous days, but an increase is anticipated starting tomorrow with conditions of high temperatures and low humidity that could fuel the flames.
In areas of higher activity such as the northeast slope of Cerro Colorado and Cerro Donat, it has not been possible to combat the fire on the ground due to the inaccessibility and danger of the terrain for the teams. However, in the area surrounding Cascada Los Alerces, the fire has diminished and cooling tasks are being carried out with support from meteorological observers and drone operators for aerial monitoring.
Aerial teams are conducting direct water attacks in the most affected areas, as well as facilitating the transport of personnel and resources. Authorities have restricted certain areas for safety reasons and have closed the road from Los Rápidos to the Circuito Cascada los Alerces, allowing only the circulation of authorized vehicles from official institutions.
