Rio Negro to Enhance Oil Export Capabilities

A port terminal for oil export will boost Rio Negro's strategic role in Argentina's international oil market. YPF is preparing the site for pipeline installation amid regulatory changes allowing provincial oversight.

Rio Negro to Enhance Oil Export Capabilities

In the Alto Valle of Río Negro, the construction of an export port terminal is being developed, which will position the province as a strategic point for sending Argentine oil to international markets. The company YPF is in charge of leveling and preparing the land on the northern side of the Alto Valle to receive the pipelines of the oil pipeline that will connect to the Atlantic coast.

The execution of this project has a significant impact on logistics, which will allow optimizing the flow of crude oil to international markets. The Hydrocarbons Secretariat of Río Negro has played an important role in supervising the project, due to recent modifications in provincial legislation allowing its participation in the oversight of transport infrastructure.

Amelia Lapuente, a chemical engineer from the Hydrocarbons Secretariat of Río Negro, pointed out: "With this project, we are changing the paradigm of oversight in Río Negro, focusing not only on hydrocarbon production but also on its transport. It's very important for us because now we will participate in the export of hydrocarbons produced in the country."

The oversight covers all phases of the project, from planning to the construction of the pipelines. Lapuente emphasized that supervising the construction of the pipelines is a great advance, as previously the province did not have intervention capacity in national transport projects.

The first segment of the oil pipeline, which is almost finished, connects the Loma Campana area in Neuquén with the Allen Pumping Station in Río Negro, covering about 130 kilometers. The second segment, in the preparation process, will extend from Allen to Punta Colorada covering an additional 470 kilometers. In total, the Vaca Muerta Sur oil pipeline will have an extension of more than 600 kilometers with two main segments.
