A 24-hour nationwide strike by passenger transport companies is set for May 6, as unions reject insufficient wage offers amidst ongoing negotiations.

National Transport Strike Scheduled for May 6

The Argentine Association of Automotive Transport Entrepreneurs (AAETA) decided to carry out a 24-hour nationwide strike in short and medium-distance passenger transport companies. This measure is scheduled for Tuesday, May 6th, starting at midnight.

According to Luciano Fusaro, president of AAETA, an offer was made to the union in line with the freeze on rates that has been in place for 8 months. However, this offer was deemed insufficient by the Automobile Tramway Union (UTA), which remains firm in its demand for a basic salary of $1,700,000.

Negotiations between the parties stalled when transportation chambers offered three non-remunerative sums that the UTA considered insufficient. In light of this situation, the strike was confirmed, and there are no prospects for an agreement unless an arbitration ruling is applied to decide on the situation.

Gabriel Gusso, union secretary of the UTA, stated that despite the planned meeting with the Ministry of Labor, the strike scheduled for Tuesday remains in place. He believes that the policies of the current government do not meet the union's demands, especially regarding collective bargaining and inflation.
