Argentina's Security Minister to Report on Plan Güemes

Minister of National Security Alejandra Monteoliva will present a report on the Plan Güemes, which is applied in border areas, and will report on the results obtained against drug trafficking and human trafficking in the north of the country. The conference will be held at the Officers' Casino of the Headquarters of Gendarmería Nacional Argentina's IX Region, this Monday the 30th at 11:15 am in the city of Salta, within the framework of a work agenda that she will also develop in the province of Jujuy, with an emphasis on strengthening security in border areas and the operational coordination of the Federal Forces. Plan Güemes is an initiative that began in December 2024, as part of a comprehensive security strategy to combat drug trafficking, smuggling, and human trafficking on the northern border of Argentina, specifically in Salta. The main objective is to "seal" the borders, regain territorial control in critical areas such as Orán and Aguas Blancas, and dismantle criminal gangs linked to drug sales and human trafficking networks. This plan is carried forward by both the Gendarmería, the Prefectura, and the Federal Police, in addition to teamwork with the provincial police, and the use of drones, radars, and scanners. The focus that Monteoliva intended to give is based on criminal intelligence and operational coordination for border control and clandestine crossings. Plan Güemes includes the Prefectura's patrol of the Bermejo River in areas such as Tartagal and Salvador Mazza. At this same event, the Minister of Security will deliver computer equipment to strengthen the operational capabilities of all forces involved in this initiative.
