Retired Police Officer in Salta Charged with Weapon Threats

Buenos Aires, March 26 (NA) -- A 75-year-old retired police officer was charged with threatening to kill his wife and the officers who came to notify him, as he wielded a firearm against the police and was later released. According to the Argentine News Agency (NA), as indicated by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Salta, the charge was brought by prosecutor VerĂ³nica Simesen, representative of the Family and Gender Violence area. Therefore, the man faces charges of threats and aggravated resistance to authority. During the hearing, the prosecution requested that the detention be maintained. However, the 3rd Guarantees Court of the Central district did not uphold the request and granted him freedom. The complainant stated that on March 13, her husband was agitated, a state he had shown for previous days, and had threatened to kill her, so she went to live at a relative's house. Therefore, on March 19, police officers sought to notify the man about his exclusion from the home, ordered by the 3rd Family and Gender Violence Court. However, upon arriving at his home in the Tres Cerritos neighborhood in the city of Salta, the man barricaded himself and threatened the officers, leading to the intervention of the GOPAR Tactical Group. After four hours of trying to get the man to change his ways, the officers entered the home and found him with a weapon he used to point at the police, until he was subdued and arrested.
