In Mendoza, Argentina, the Federal Court №1 has ordered the investigation of 17 former military and police officers for crimes against humanity committed against children during the dictatorship. This decision follows a request from a specialized prosecutor. The case was initiated by Ángela Urondo Raboy, a victim whose parents were kidnapped, but whose own case was not included in the 2011 trials due to legal issues. She has since brought together 58 cases of child victims. The accused used children as part of torture, subjected them to abuse, and treated them inhumanely, denying them food, water, and basic hygiene. This upcoming trial aims to restore the generational identity of the victims and hold the perpetrators accountable for the extreme cruelty inflicted upon children during the dictatorship.
Ángela Urondo Raboy: «In 2021, together with my lawyer Alfredo Guevara, we decided to file a final complaint for crimes against humanity. I realized then that what happened to me also happened to them and to others. We were cellmates. The recognition of these crimes as a whole gives entity to those children who were treated as objects».
«The children were there, but their cases were not reached by justice until now. The court accepted the prosecution's request to charge and call for interrogations of 17 out of the 24 requested individuals,» the report states.
