Controversy Over Police Vehicle Count in Mendoza

A senator questions the accuracy of police vehicle numbers, alleging the government may be misleading the public. An official report states 761 vehicles, while the government claims 1,355. A demand for transparency is initiated.

Controversy Over Police Vehicle Count in Mendoza

Provincial Senator Gabriel Pradines submitted a request for information to clarify the discrepancies in the official data regarding the number of patrol cars in Mendoza. The Minister of Security stated that there are 1,355 operational patrol cars in the province, but the Court of Accounts asserts that there are 761. In light of this situation, Pradines requested the Court of Accounts to clarify how many vehicles are actually in operation; however, his request was rejected by the ruling party.

The senator expressed his concern during his intervention in the Bicameral Security Committee, noting that there is currently an 8.36% decrease in vehicles per inhabitant compared to the previous administration. Given the discrepancy in the data, Pradines called for action, indicating that if the data from the Court of Accounts is incorrect, political action should be taken; but if the minister lied, it would be evident negligence in security matters in Mendoza.

Pradines questioned the figures presented by the minister, highlighting the difference of almost 600 patrol cars between what the official reported and the Court of Accounts. The minister assured that the information from the Court was not correct and maintained that in 2024 the province had 1,355 operational police vehicles. In light of this situation, the senator stated that the disparity in the data raises doubts and requested the Chamber to take action if the inaccuracy of the official information is confirmed.
