The president of the Encuentro Federal bloc in the Chamber of Deputies, Miguel Pichetto, expressed his concern about the lack of direction of the Argentine Government in its foreign policy. Pichetto questioned where the country is heading in this regard and indicated that Argentina is disoriented in this sense.
Pichetto's statements arose after the Argentine Government's decision to vote alone against a resolution of the United Nations (UN) Assembly regarding the protection of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. The politician emphasized that the country was isolated in its position against violence towards women and children in this context.
Additionally, Miguel Pichetto criticized the Argentine President's proposal to establish a free trade agreement with the United States, arguing that this measure would weaken local industry and harm Mercosur. Instead, the deputy advocated for maintaining economic integration with Brazil and other Mercosur countries.
For Pichetto, it is essential to avoid returning to a policy of exclusive alignment with the United States and instead advocated for seeking a multipolar articulation with an emphasis on Mercosur as the basis for Argentina's international relations.
