The national deputies of the Socialist Party Encuentro Federal, Esteban Paulón and Mónica Fein, presented a bill requiring presidential advisors to submit sworn statements of their assets, just like other officials do in accordance with the Public Ethics Law.
The proposal arises with the intention of increasing transparency and preventing corruption and influence peddling, especially referencing Javier Milei's prominent advisor, Santiago Caputo. Caputo, known for his significant influence in sensitive areas such as justice, intelligence, and public companies, is currently not subject to the same controls as other officials in the Executive Branch.
In the justification of the project, the deputies emphasized the importance of those with such relevant responsibilities being accountable for their assets, regardless of whether their position is paid. The proposal also incorporates amendments to the Public Ethics Law to establish the mandatory submission of sworn statements for all officials in Senior Public Management, including presidential advisors and contracted consultants.
The initiative aims to strengthen the democratic system and the oversight of government actions, as well as promote ongoing public scrutiny of officials performing high management tasks in the public sector.
