Argentina Government Halts Train Strike

The national government has called off the train strike planned for Thursday by declaring mandatory conciliation in the salary conflict with the La Fraternidad machinists' union. This guarantees the normal provision of railway services while negotiations between the parties resume. The measure was adopted by the Secretariat of Labor, Employment and Social Security, under the Ministry of Human Capital, and is effective from 00:00 on Thursday, February 5, for an initial duration of 15 days. With the mandatory conciliation in force, the union leadership has been formally instructed to call off the strike and any other action that could affect the service. Consequently, trains will operate normally in the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area, as well as on long-distance and freight services, eliminating the risk of a total system shutdown. While the conflict is not yet closed and talks will continue, the government's intervention has prevented a new strike and restored at least temporary predictability to the transport system.
