January 2026 proved to be an atypical month for the automotive market in Argentina. According to data from the Argentine Association of Automotive Manufacturers (ACARA), an unusual podium emerged, with a pickup, a sedan, and an SUV leading the sales charts, reflecting a demand spread across different segments. The top 10 most patented vehicles included the Toyota Hilux, Fiat Cronos, and Peugeot 208. In total, 66,080 units were patented in January, marking a 4.9% year-over-year decrease compared to the 69,520 units sold in January 2025. The main reason for the drop in rankings for models like the Toyota Yaris and Toyota Corolla Cross was not a decrease in demand, but rather supply issues. Production in Brazil was only ramped up in the second half of the month, which directly impacted the number of patentable vehicles. If production normalizes, these models have the potential to quickly return to the top of the rankings.
