A party being held at a quinta in the town of 9 de Abril ended with one dead and two detained after a shootout between officers from the Buenos Aires Provincial Police and suspects linked to a gang dedicated to car theft. The gang, which would also be involved in drug trafficking, according to sources consulted by the Argentine News Agency, had been under investigation for several years. The episode occurred in the district of Esteban Echeverría, in the southwest of the Buenos Aires metropolitan area, when agents carried out a procedure as part of an investigation that had been going on for several months. During the shootout, police shot one of the suspects, who jumped from a height trying to escape and fell seriously wounded after being shot in the head and chest. The investigation, which began in May 2025, allowed them to confirm at least 15 criminal acts, which led the Justice to order 33 simultaneous raids. The deceased was identified as Diego Ezequiel López, 23 years old. According to police sources, the young man had a criminal record and a standing arrest warrant, while the weapon he was carrying during the confrontation was reported as stolen. Among them were those in charge of the violent theft of vehicles, suppliers of weapons and documentation, people dedicated to adulterating vehicles, drivers and those responsible for managing the money obtained from the crimes.
