Peronism will redouble its efforts to reach an agreement with opposition blocs to hold a session this Thursday to close the ordinary period in the Chamber of Deputies. However, as of this report, they have failed to secure the 129 legislators needed to hold the session, according to parliamentary sources to the Argentine News Agency (NA).
The Peronist bloc wanted to hold the last session before the legislative turnover, which ends on November 30, to approve a package of initiatives promoted by the opposition, such as the declaration of a state of emergency for SMEs, the new structure of ANDIS, and, especially, the election of the body's representatives before the General Audit Office (AGN).
The election of three members to the AGN is the issue that draws the most rejection from the ruling party, which wants to appoint its representatives from the Chamber of Deputies with the new composition of the body, where there will be extreme parity with Peronism.
This position is highly coveted by any political force as it is an oversight body for public accounts, and even more so for auditors, who will have an 8-year mandate and salaries exceeding 8 million pesos.
Peronism had agreed with the Federal Encounter that each would propose one candidate, and the remaining one would be for the ruling party. However, in the first case, the government was able to ratify the presidential veto, and in the second case, the veto has not yet been considered because the opposition did not gather the two-thirds majority.
The current political context is different, and each political force is building its own space for the new scenario that is approaching, with a ruling party close to achieving a minority status and a Peronism that is seeking to avoid further losses to not lose its position as the leading force in the Chamber of Deputies.
The ruling party will have a block of 91 of its own deputies and will need to reach agreements with the PRO, UCR, Federal Innovation, Production and Work, and United Provinces to pass the package of laws that will be processed in extraordinary sessions, where the central theme will be the National Budget.
