Today, the Senate rejected a request on the agenda to interrogate Karina Milei, Secretary General of the Presidency, regarding the Libra Cryptogate promoted by the senator and head of the Peronist bloc, José Mayans. Mayans expressed his dissatisfaction, arguing that the presence of Guillermo Francos, Chief of Cabinet, in the lower house last week was "a waste of time."
The Cryptogate, which shook the national Government on February 14, arose when the president disseminated the memecoin Libra through his official X account, only to later delete the post due to criticism and the drop in its valuation. In contrast to the failure of the request for interrogation of Karina Milei, the other dialogue-oriented blocs plan to present a request for information in committee.
The head of the libertarian bloc, Ezequiel Atauche, announced that they will vote against the interrogation and, if necessary, may advance with a new interrogation. The same opinion was shared by Alfredo de Angeli, head of the PRO bloc, proposing to go "step by step" and start with the request for information.
Despite Mayans' insistence on the seriousness of the corruption related to the Cryptogate and the need for answers to the people, the Senate also denied the interrogations of ministers Luis Caputo and Luis Petri. The interrogation of Caputo included not only the Cryptogate but also the issue of the agreement with the IMF, while Petri's focused on the riot control training conducted by the Navy.
