The interblock of senators from Union for the Homeland and the national deputies' bench chaired by Germán Martínez decided not to attend the Legislative Assembly on Saturday, March 1, where President Javier Milei will officiate the opening of the regular session period. In an official statement, they expressed that "there are plenty of reasons" for this decision.
The statement mentioned various reasons to justify their absence, among which they highlighted the "Milei crypto-scam" and the appointment of court judges "by decree and without Senate approval." Additionally, they pointed out that the government has not addressed the budget law for the second consecutive year, which they consider an additional reason to not participate in the ceremony.
Other arguments presented by the Peronist bench include the underfunding of Argentine provinces, the failure to finance science and technology, as well as cuts in education, health, and disability that they consider detrimental to the people. In light of this situation, they decided not to be present in the chamber on March 1.
Days before, the national senators' interblock, chaired by José Mayans, had also announced their absence from the Legislative Assembly. Likewise, the national deputies of the Left Front joined the decision not to attend the event, which will mean a significant absence of the most firm opposition in the ceremony.
It is expected that, due to these absences, the Legislative Assembly will practically turn into a libertarian rally, as the dialoguing opposition blocs will be represented by groups of delegates instead of all their members. Among the concerns raised are the adjustment to pensions, elderly people without medication, delegated powers, and the current DNU 70, as well as the closure of industries and SMEs.
