The Unión por la Patria (UxP) bloc of the Chamber of Deputies will present a request for impeachment against President Javier Milei for his alleged promotion of the cryptocurrency $LIBRA amidst suspicions of market manipulation and insider trading. According to the request from the Left Front (FIT), the initial announcement regarding the cryptocurrency caused a significant increase in its value before its subsequent fall, generating millions in profits for those involved, seemingly backed by the Argentine president.
Opponents have considered this event to be an unprecedented scandal and plan to move forward with the presentation of an impeachment request against the President of the Nation. Additionally, the FIT is seeking to have Milei appear in the Lower House to provide detailed explanations about what happened, describing the situation as the promotion of a "million-dollar scam" through his social media.
In the grounds for the interpellation request, it is emphasized that Milei presented the cryptocurrency $LIBRA as a tool to finance small businesses in Argentina, and shortly after that promotion, its value experienced a sudden drop. The opposition bloc also demands that the interpellation be broadcast nationwide so that the entire population can be informed about it.
In this context, the UxP asserts that Milei's alleged participation in a crime related to scams in the cryptocurrency sector is extremely serious and deserves thorough investigation.
