Former president Alberto Fernández must appear for an investigative statement this Tuesday, accused of aggravated injuries, gender violence, and coercion against his ex-partner, former first lady Fabiola Yáñez. It has been determined that Fernández exercised different forms of violence since the beginning of the relationship. His defense has filed motions in an attempt to suspend the hearing; however, he must appear on Tuesday at Comodoro Py 2002 before federal prosecutor Ramiro González and judge Julián Ercolini. The accusations include aggravated injuries due to gender violence, permanent weakening of the health of the former first lady, and coercion, with a maximum of 18 years in prison in case of conviction. Fernández's lawyer unsuccessfully tried to remove the judge from the case, alleging bias. This is based on evidence gathered in the file, such as images provided by Yáñez to third parties. The prosecutor's office has indicated psychological, physical, and economic violence, according to Law 26.485 on Comprehensive Protection of Women. Fernández was already questioned last November in a case related to the hiring of intermediaries for insurance policies of public agencies. Fernández's ex-partner testified via videoconference from Madrid, while others involved testified, including family members, doctors, beauticians, friends, and nannies. Judge Ercolini is also involved in this case, still without resolving his procedural situation.
