Chubut's Landmark Ruling on Corruption

Governor Ignacio Torres celebrated Chubut's historic ruling condemning former Family Minister Cecilia Torres Otarola for public administration fraud, emphasizing the province's commitment to transparency and accountability.

Chubut's Landmark Ruling on Corruption

The governor of Chubut, Ignacio "Nacho" Torres, emphasized that the province has set an important precedent by issuing a conviction in a case involving "ñoquis," related to corruption during the previous government of Mariano Arcioni. In this regard, Torres described the ruling as exemplary and highlighted that Chubut is a pioneer in this type of resolution in the country.

Specifically, the former Minister of Family from the previous government, Cecilia Torres Otarola, was sentenced to three and a half years in prison for defrauding the public administration. This was due to a series of appointments of collaborators and advisors who did not perform their functions, some of them carrying out tasks at the official's private residence. Torres emphasized that there is no place for 'ñoquis' in Chubut.

The governor recalled that one of his main commitments was to manage a transparent State, which led to the reversal of appointments from the previous administration and the conducting of a census of provincial employees to combat those who were paid without working. He underscored the importance of continuing to manage an efficient State for the benefit of all Chubut residents.

In the context of the case "Caliente Noquis," former minister Cecilia Torres Otarola was sentenced to three years of suspended prison for crimes against public administration, including demanding a percentage of the salaries of her collaborators as a "return." This resulted in penalties for several of her collaborators and the permanent disqualification from holding public office for the former official.

Governor Torres highlighted the importance of this conviction, both legally and in terms of transparency for the citizenry, asserting that corruption has consequences and that efforts must be made to meet the demand for political transparency from the citizens of Chubut.
