The Ministry of Health of the Nation reinforced actions to control the chikungunya outbreak in northwestern Argentina and deepened joint work with the provinces of Salta, Jujuy, Tucumán, Santiago del Estero, and Catamarca. The objective is to strengthen case blocking, improve early diagnosis, and reinforce epidemiological surveillance. According to the health ministry, the central goal is to reduce the population of the Aedes aegypti mosquito in areas with the highest active transmission and improve local response capacity to the outbreak's expansion. The main focus is on border areas and regions with high population mobility. According to the latest National Epidemiological Bulletin, the total number of confirmed and probable cases is 348, with Salta concentrating 270 and remaining the epicenter of the outbreak. In Jujuy, blocking actions were initiated in Aguas Calientes and Caimancito, while in Tucumán, support continues in San Miguel de Tucumán, Yerba Buena, and Lules. National technical teams also carried out focal control actions in 162 homes in Aguas Blancas and 447 in Salvador Mazza. The ministry reiterated the importance of sustaining prevention measures, including eliminating containers that accumulate water, using repellent, placing mosquito nets, and wearing clothing that covers arms and legs during outdoor activities.
