A Juvenile Guarantee Court judge has imposed a restrictive security measure on the liberty of a 15-year-old teenager accused of setting fire to a parish and even making satanic paintings last November 1, in the Buenos Aires seaside resort of Pehuén Có.
This is a minor who was identified as the presumed author of the fire that destroyed the Sacred Family chapel in the district of Coronel Rosales, and also for having made paintings in different places.
Judge Claudia Olivera, at the request of Prosecutor Betina Ungaro, ordered the aforementioned measure after the case had several testimonies and evidence that allowed the minor to be identified as the author of the facts.
As indicated, these pieces of evidence presented to the Juvenile Guarantee were valued because it was understood to be a case of 'extreme seriousness,' a situation that, by law, allows for the provisional restriction of the minor's liberty.
The incident caused shock in the small seaside town where neighbors and authorities held a meeting to begin cleaning the area and plan for reconstruction. 'The neighbors are working shoulder to shoulder to remove the remains of the burned roof and structure,' said the municipal delegate of Pehuén Có, Sergio Pereyra, who also said that many neighbors contributed machinery and even wheelbarrows. 'The roof, beams, pews, and ceiling were burned, while the concrete columns remain standing, but we will have to see in a technical report if they can be reused,' he added.
