Argentine Deputy Backs Lowering the Age of Criminal Responsibility

In Argentina, there is an ongoing debate about lowering the age of criminal responsibility. National deputy for La Libertad Avanza (LLA), Karen Reichardt, defended a bill to reform the Juvenile Penal Law, which the government has included on the agenda for extraordinary congressional sessions in February. Through a homemade video shared on her social networks, the former actress and model stated that it is «a debate that has been postponed for too long in Argentina». Reichardt emphasized that «he who commits the crime, pays for it». In her post, she wrote that «an adult's crime must correspond to an adult's penalty». «In Argentina, there are minors who kill, steal armed, and in a few hours they are back on the street, as if nothing happened,» she warned. Reichardt stated that people who commit crimes, regardless of their age, must pay for them. «I will support this project to put an end to impunity, to set a clear limit, and so that whoever wants to go out and commit a crime takes responsibility,» she concluded. «This is not about political ideologies, it is about common sense».
