Bus strike in Argentina over salary demands

The Union of Automotive Tram Workers (UTA) has announced a strike for next Thursday, demanding salary improvements. This action will take place one day after the strike announced by the Argentine Confederation of Transport Workers (CATT), which involves all public transport means, such as trains, boats, planes, and subways, as well as freight services.

The strike announcement was made by the union led by Roberto Fernández, which will result in the suspension of bus services starting at midnight on Thursday the 31st. Despite joining the salary claim, the UTA will not participate in the CATT measure, a sector that is in a more distant position from President Javier Milei's government.

Previously, the UTA was under mandatory conciliation imposed by the Labor Secretariat, which prevented it from taking strike actions until Tuesday the 29th, allowing it to legally join the strike of other transport branches. In a meeting held this Monday with sector chambers, no agreement was reached as "revenues do not reflect reality at all."

The UTA had proposed a basic salary of $1,160,000 for August, with gradual increases reaching $1,322,136 in December. For its part, according to the union, transport companies did not make any offers during the aforementioned meeting.

In summary, this means that public transport users will face service disruptions for two consecutive days.
