The company Trenes Argentinos clarified through a statement sent to Noticias Argentinas the reasons behind the decision to discontinue the service that connected Buenos Aires with Pehuajó. Firstly, they mentioned 'Operational safety,' explaining that after a technical evaluation it was determined that optimal conditions could not be guaranteed in the section between Bragado and Pehuajó to responsibly provide passenger service.
On the other hand, they referred to 'Extended travel time and delays,' arguing that low demand is due to lack of competitiveness compared to other means of transport due to delays and the limited speed along the 58-kilometer route. They highlighted that between May and July, half of the services arrived with significant delays, adding to the 9.46 hours that the trip of 362 kilometers takes, and that the last service transported only 44 passengers over the entire route.
Regarding 'Costs,' they detailed that by discontinuing the service, 117 million pesos will be saved per month. The passenger train line between Once and Pehuajó will cease operations from November 1, according to the information provided by Trenes Argentinos.
The company recently updated its virtual ticketing for the sale of Long Distance train tickets, confirming that the service currently connecting Pehuajó with Buenos Aires will extend only to Bragado. This measure, which will come into effect on November 1, marks the end of the railway connection with Pehuajó, also affecting towns such as 9 de Julio and Carlos Casares, which will be left without the passenger train linking them to the capital and other towns in the region.
