Argentina's Economy Minister, Luis Caputo, will arrive in Washington this Wednesday to participate in the Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) along with the World Bank. He will also seek to secure the approval of the second review of the agreement, which would unblock a disbursement of US$1 billion. The event brings together ministers, central bankers, and world leaders. Due to the failure to meet reserve accumulation targets (US$11 billion below the agreed level from the previous year), the government may request a 'waiver' to unlock new financing. In this context, Caputo will hold a meeting with the head of the IMF, Kristalina Georgieva. His official agenda, reported to the Argentine News Agency, also includes other meetings, such as with the President of the World Bank, Ajay Banga, and his counterpart from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Ilan Goldfajn. He will also attend the G20 Ministers' meeting, which will discuss global economy and financial education. The meeting with the Fund comes a day after the organization cut its growth projections for the country while raising its inflation forecasts. It projects GDP growth of 3.5%, a decrease of 0.5 percentage points from the previous estimate, and 2026 will end with an inflation rate of 30.5%, nearly double the figure calculated six months earlier (16.5%).
