Argentina's national cattle herd closed 2025 with 50,920,790 heads, a decrease of 700,000 animals, or 1.3%, according to data from the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries. This figure deepens the decline that began in 2022, reaching a total reduction of 3.2 million heads. The official report, processed by the Argentine News Agency, indicates that the stock of calves fell by approximately 200,000 compared to 2024. This drop is attributed to births during the winter of 2025, which were affected by a previous decline in the breeding herd. In the cow and heifer categories, the herd size decreased by 516,000 heads, largely due to the culling of females in 2025. However, an increase of approximately 1% was detected in the male categories, equivalent to about 57,000 more heads.
