Argentina Sets Uniform Annual Gas Price

Argentina's Ministry of Economy has set a uniform annual gas price for consumers under the Gas.Ar plan. This measure aims to mitigate seasonal price fluctuations and transition to a focused subsidy system to enhance the energy sector's sustainability.

Argentina Sets Uniform Annual Gas Price

The Ministry of Economy, through the Secretariat of Energy, has established a uniform annual price for natural gas for 2026 consumption linked to the contracts of the Gas.Ar plan, which will be passed on to end-users. This measure is framed within the implementation of the Focused Energy Subsidies regime and the continuity of the energy sector emergency, extended until December 31, 2027, to gradually reduce subsidies and ensure the system's sustainability. According to resolution 23/2026, accessed by the Argentine News Agency, the uniform annual price is based on the actual supply cost of gas under the Gas.Ar plan and aims to mitigate the dual seasonal effect that users face in winter due to higher consumption and price increases. The Ministry instructed the Secretariat of Energy to apply the new price according to the criteria used in the closed public consultation in December 2025 and in decrees 943/25 and 26/26, and then to follow the provisions of resolution 41/2024 on tariff transfer and state compensations. The resolution states that ENERGÍA ARGENTINA SA, the producers, and the gas distribution and sub-distribution companies operating under the Gas.Ar plan must, within a five-day period, adapt their supply contracts or agreements to the new conditions and submit them to the Secretariat of Energy and Enargas. Enargas was instructed to ensure that the tariff charts and bills from service providers reflect the new uniform annual price and, where applicable, the benefits of the Focused Energy Subsidies regime for benefiting residential users, both on base consumption and on the excess. As confirmed by the Argentine News Agency from reading the norm, the uniform annual price will be the basis on which the benefits of the subsidy regime will be applied and may differ from the gas price at the point of entry into the transportation system that the regulatory body passes through to the tariff as a pass-through. The Secretariat of Energy also instructed Enargas to adapt the methodology and informational procedures of the compensation mechanism provided for in the Gas.Ar plan, to consider the beneficiary status and the type of demand in each case, in line with the new focused subsidies scheme. The resolution came into effect today with its publication in the Official Bulletin and orders the communication to Enargas, ENERGÍA ARGENTINA SA, and all natural gas producing, distribution, and sub-distribution companies participating in the Gas.Ar plan throughout the country.
