Argentina Aims for Record Wheat Harvest in 2025

Argentina's 2025/26 wheat campaign is set to be the most significant in history, with a harvest of 24.7 to 25.5 million tons. Despite low global prices, this will make Argentina the most competitive wheat exporter.

Argentina Aims for Record Wheat Harvest in 2025

The 2025/26 wheat campaign in Argentina is set to become the most important in the country's history, with a national production estimated between 24.7 and 25.5 million tons. According to reports from the Córdoba and Buenos Aires Grain Exchanges, this forecast represents a 33% increase over the previous campaign and 9 million tons above the historical average. Given a record world harvest and low international prices, the export price for Argentine wheat in December 2025 is estimated at USD 177 per ton, the lowest at harvest in five years. Nevertheless, Argentina remains the most competitive wheat exporter. Wheat exports for 2026 are projected to reach a record 15.5 million tons, generating close to USD 3.1 billion. Domestic wheat consumption is also expected to hit a record of 7 million tons. The province of Córdoba, in turn, is set to achieve its own records in production, gross production value, and farmers' income.

The estimated investment for the campaign would be around USD 500 million.

The report warns that, despite the record volume, the quality of the grain could be affected by lower protein levels, impacting price and profit margins, although high productivity would partially offset the lower values.

Finally, the document highlighted the recent reduction in export duties announced by the Government, which for wheat will decrease from 9.5% to 7.5%, a measure that would contribute to improving the competitiveness of the cereal in a year marked by an extraordinary harvest.
