Argentina Faces Legal Setbacks in US Courts

Argentina faces increased legal challenges as a US court orders the execution of $209 million in assets. This complicates the country's financing efforts amidst ongoing debt disputes.

Argentina Faces Legal Setbacks in US Courts

Argentina faces legal difficulties abroad while seeking financing in international markets. A group of creditors executed a lien for US$ 209 million following an adverse ruling in a lawsuit over bonds from the 90s. Judge Loretta Preska allowed the execution of Argentine assets, reducing the debt to US$ 251 million.

In another case, bondholders in London executed a guarantee of US$ 325 million, while Bainbridge Fund attempted to join the lien on Brady Bonds. Preska justified her decision based on Argentina's inability to overturn the ruling in higher courts. Attestor Master Value took possession of the assets in compensation for the unpaid debt of US$ 460 million.

The lien was enforced on funds in the Federal Reserve Bank of New York related to Brady Bonds that matured in 2023 after the default in 2001. Given the situation, Argentina faces challenges to settle pending lawsuits and achieve financial stability in international markets.
