Bank Employees Union Rejects IMF Deal

The La Bancaria union, responsible for representing bank employees nationwide, led by Secretary General and National Deputy Sergio Palazzo, has categorically rejected what they consider an "illegal and unpayable arrangement" with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). In a statement issued, they expressed their dissatisfaction and concern towards President Javier Milei for having sent a Decree of Necessity and Urgency (DNU 179/2025) to Congress without detailing its conditions.

"He is committing a new fraud. And it is an aberration that a DNU is considered valid only because one chamber of Congress does not reject it, which is happening during this Government due to complicity or purchase of favors," highlighted La Bancaria. Furthermore, they pointed out that the decree is considered illegal according to the National Constitution, which states that it is Congress that is responsible for "arranging the payment of the national internal and external debt."

In this regard, La Bancaria emphasized the need for any agreement with the IMF to be approved by law by both chambers of Congress, as established by Law 27.612. They also expressed their concern about the conditions of this supposed arrangement, asserting that it could involve the cession of national assets, such as the National Bank, and a greater economic adjustment that would affect the country.

In an energetic tone, they expressed their rejection of what they consider a "new and gigantic fraud" that would lead the country to a breakdown. Additionally, they called on the IMF to suspend interest surcharges and return the amounts collected, arguing that these decisions would only lead to an even more serious economic and social emergency. They concluded their statement urging the Argentine Nation to selectively consider not complying with this agreement, given its fraudulent nature and the severe consequences it would entail.
