New Developments in María Cash Disappearance Case

Héctor Romero, a truck driver, claimed to have been the last person to see María Cash before her disappearance on July 8, 2011, which has added an unexpected twist to the case. As part of the investigation carried out by Federal Court No. 2 of Salta regarding Cash's disappearance, a new testimony was received this morning that has complicated the suspect's situation.

At the request of the Attorney General Eduardo Villalba, who is responsible for determining what happened to Cash, a series of witness statements have been made, seven of which took place last week. In a recent statement, David Romero, brother of Héctor and also a transporter, claimed to have transported the young woman from the Torzalito roundabout to the Difunta Correa grotto on the day of her disappearance on route 9/34.

The truck driver gave three different versions of that encounter during the statement directed by the court's Penal Secretary, Jaqueline Murga. Thirteen years after the disappearance of María Cash, still with a reward of five million pesos for information about her whereabouts, Romero's brother stated in court: "If he made a mistake, he should take responsibility."

María Cash was last seen in various locations in the area, such as the Portezuelo neighborhood, San Bernardo hospital, and the former Aunor toll booth, among others. Witnesses who had contact with her indicated that she appeared disoriented and vulnerable. The main hypothesis suggests that Cash was trying to return to Buenos Aires and after leaving the former Aunor toll booth, she walked along route 9/34 until she was picked up by truck driver Héctor Romero, who worked alongside his brother David for a supermarket in General Güemes.

Despite the fact that the truck driver claiming to have picked up Cash was in charge of transporting goods between locations and frequently traveled that route, David worked at the supermarket in General Güemes.
