POSCO Argentina Inaugurates Lithium Hydroxide Plant

POSCO Argentina has inaugurated its lithium hydroxide production plant in Salta, signaling a significant investment and commitment to the region's economic development. With a capacity of 25,000 tons per year, this project aims to strengthen local communities and position Argentina as a key player in the global lithium market.

The mining company POSCO Argentina will begin the production of Lithium Hydroxide with a capacity of 25 thousand tons per year, involving more than 60 local suppliers and demonstrating its commitment to the region in which it operates. This project, which involves a significant investment, has been highlighted by the Governor as a significant step for both the provincial economy and the global position of the province in the mining industry.

The annual production of lithium hydroxide is expected to generate multiple economic benefits and consolidate the province's presence in the mining field worldwide. The company acquired properties in the Salar del Hombre Muerto in 2018 and has since steadily advanced its operations, showcasing the potential that arises when industry, government, and society collaborate together.

The ambassador of Korea in Argentina celebrated the start of production at the Lithium Hydroxide plant as a milestone in the long history of collaboration between Korea and Argentina. He highlighted the support received from national and provincial authorities, emphasizing the contribution of this project to the economic and social development of the province of Salta, as well as to the growth of the lithium industry at both national and international levels.

POSCO Argentina is in the process of building Commercial Plant 2 in La Puna, representing a crucial advancement towards leadership in lithium hydroxide production. The company projects to reach a capacity of 50,000 tons annually in the coming year, demonstrating its commitment to the industrial and economic development of the region. Additionally, the possibility of investing in new projects is being evaluated to further strengthen its market presence.

The president of POSCO Argentina highlighted the positive impact this plant will have on the environment and the local community, while it is expected to contribute significantly to the progress and economic growth of the region. This project, part of the "Sal de Oro" initiative, marks an essential advancement in lithium production in Argentina, especially in the rechargeable battery materials sector.

The governor of Salta emphasized the importance of this inauguration for consolidating the province as a mining investment destination. Job generation, boosting the value chain, and economic and social development were highlighted as key objectives, along with the relevance of working together to achieve sustainable and beneficial development for all parties involved.
