Argentina Builds New 'Papa Francisco' Highway

In Salta, Argentina, a new highway is being constructed, running through the tourist region of the Lerma Valley south of the city of Salta. This infrastructure project, named 'Papa Francisco,' is one of the most significant road projects in recent years. The works will be carried out on four fronts and are estimated to take 36 months. Concurrently, construction of a canal over 12 kilometers long will begin at the height of the Rosario River, which will solve the problem of seasonal flooding on National Route 68. The new highway will have the capacity to handle up to 40,000 vehicles per day and will feature seven interchanges, three bridges over the Pulares and Rosario rivers, and LED lighting. With the completion of the project, road connectivity between towns will significantly improve, road safety and the quality of life for thousands of residents will be enhanced. It will also positively impact the development of tourism, the hotel and restaurant industry, and will encourage new investments in housing, education, and sports. The project, designed for 50 years of use, aims to decongest the overloaded Route 68 and strengthen the socio-economic development of the entire province.
