Woman Sentenced to Prison for Attempting to Murder Partner in Salta

A woman was sentenced to three years in prison, suspended, for being guilty of the crime of grievous bodily harm against her partner, whom she attempted to murder by spraying him with alcohol in the city of Salta. According to information from the Public Prosecutor's Office, accessed by the Argentine News Agency, the events occurred in November 2024 when the victim, a 38-year-old man, suffered serious burns to his face and upper body. The victim's mother and sister reported that he was set on fire by Verónica Nieto, with whom he had a romantic relationship in a rental home in the provincial capital. During the plea hearing, the defense attorney requested an acquittal and, subsidiarily, asked that a sentence be imposed with the minimum penalty for aggravated grievous bodily injuries against her boyfriend. For his part, prosecutor Gabriel González requested that she be convicted of the crime of attempted qualified homicide by cruelty and the relationship. However, Judge Leonardo Feans declared Nieto guilty and sentenced her to three years in prison, suspended, for grievous bodily injuries. The magistrate established that the defendant will be prohibited from contacting the victim and must undergo psychological treatment.
