Man Charged with Machete Attack on Police Officer in Salta

A 58-year-old man has been provisionally charged with the alleged threat and machete attack on a sergeant at the Villa el Sol police station in Salta. The incident occurred in the early hours of November 2, and he is currently in custody.

The charges against him are making threats with a weapon and assaulting an officer. According to the complainant's testimony, the accused entered the premises with a head injury while holding a machete and making threats, and at one point, he allegedly lunged at the victim.

As revealed by the Salta Public Prosecutor's Office, at risk of being injured, the woman grabbed a chair to stop the attack and was assisted by two other police officers who were in the facility. After a brief struggle, they managed to disarm and subdue the individual, who offered resistance.

The prosecution was led by prosecutor Facundo Ruiz de los Llanos, and during the hearing, the accused presented his version of the events. However, Ruiz de los Llanos requested that the detention be maintained, which was authorized by the Guarantees Court.

Additionally, it was ordered that the accused receive medical attention for his injury and could file a complaint about the incident that caused it, if he wished to do so.
