Argentina Enhances Border Security in Triple Frontier

The National Government is working on the design of an operation in the Triple Frontier aimed at reinforcing security in the area. The Minister of Security, Patricia Bullrich, announced that as part of the Güemes Plan, stricter controls will be implemented on the borders with Brazil and other neighboring countries. It is planned to increase patrolling in the perimeters and build a 200-meter fence at the crossing between Aguas Blancas (Salta) and Bermejo to prevent the entry of foreigners into the province.

Additionally, the possibility of involving the Armed Forces in this operation is being considered. According to a source in charge of the plan's design, the option for the Armed Forces to participate in border control alongside Security Forces is being evaluated. The Ministries of Defense and Security will work on the details of the deployment, determining the number of troops to be sent and the strategic locations for their presence.

To support this initiative, the repeal of Decree 727/2006 and the promulgation of Decree 1112/2024, which enable the participation of the Armed Forces in border tasks, are mentioned. It is expected that the Armed Forces will be able to carry out operational training activities, logistical support, community support actions, and assistance in cases of natural disasters or emergencies.

In addition to increasing the number of troops, it is planned to use technology to enhance surveillance in the border area. In this regard, drones acquired during Mauricio Macri's presidency will be used. Patricia Bullrich emphasized the importance of having this technology to monitor not only the Triple Frontier with Brazil but also other integrated and strategic areas such as Bernardo de Irigoyen and Salvador Mazza.

In summary, the National Government seeks to strengthen security in the Triple Frontier through an operation that will include stricter border controls, possible collaboration from the Armed Forces, and the use of technology like drones to increase surveillance in the area. The objective is to have the entire border monitored and protected, restoring the border system that existed in 2018.
